My name is Maya, I am thirteen years old. Oh Sew Maya started as Unicorn Sparkles in October 2016 after visiting a craft fair with my Mum.
I enjoy making scrunchies, hair accessories, and other gifts which are great stocking fillers, secret Santa gifts, birthday presents, and more. I make personalised bunting and tote bags for all occasions, the totes make great gift bags. I also make memory cushions and sashes from your old clothes to cherish forever. Every year I donate some of my profits to local charities and support groups that have helped my little sister. Ava was born in May 2018 and we found out that she has Down's Syndrome, she also had a hole in her heart so had to have heart surgery in September 2018 to repair it. Ward 23 at the Freeman Hospital took excellent care of her.
At first, I started making small decorative glass bottles and soon added wine glass charms and keyrings. As I got older I started to grow an interest in sewing and wanted to share my interest with the world, so Oh Sew Maya was born. In 2020 I saved up some money to buy myself an embroidery machine. It enabled me to expand my products to include hair accessories purses and other creations.
Currently, I am on a quest to raise money for a school trip with Camps International to Tanzania in July 2024. Whilst there, we will be helping to build and renovate schools. We will also help out the local community whilst they teach us about their lifestyle, as well as help promote a peaceful co-existence between the wildlife and the community. Part of the experience is to raise funds to enable us to travel so please take a look at my shop, every penny I earn will be contributed to my expedition.
